I love this website. There are some fascinating programs on here, and things to make you think.

The discussion about the cosmological constant having to be 1x10^120 in exactness for us to be here is astounding. Think about it, that constant must be so finely tuned that it must be tuned to 120 digits, that's saying a trillion 8 times(I think).
If things were off, just a tiny fraction, we wouldn't be here.
Do WE affect the universe just because we observe and ponder the universe?
HELL of a question, one of the best I've heard lately.

Some of the ideas put forward in this doc actually link quite heavily to modern string theory which is even more mind boggling. Here's the BBC Horizon episode which covers this. I remember watching it 6 years ago when I was doing my Science degree and I really struggled to get my head around it.

The only thing I think with stuff like this is that yes it truly just insanely crazy that were here, IF what they say about "1x10^120 in exactness for us to be here is astounding" is true.

I mean, what if they were wrong about that? Us non scientists are in no position to know either way.

I think you're pretty safe to assume that they are correct really, at least on the Maths. Firstly its just worked out using all the calculations we know for all the different forces and masses, so based upon all the science we currently know, its fairly straight forward.
The Maths behind it has obviously been checked by many scientists and computer simulations.

However, taking into account that scientists are currently making an assumption that 85% of the universe is made up of a material that we can't see or touch, yet still exerts a gravitational force (dark matter) no-one can say their theory is 100% correct (as in most science). Throw in Dark Energy and there is a hell of a lot we don't know... but the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step.

Its easily explained away by the multiple universe theory and why wouldnt there be loads of universes.... there's loads of planets, loads of stars, loads of galaxies... it would seem strange to me if it suddenly stopped at 1 singular universe.

Not only is it not that strange that we happen to be in this one particular galaxy that supports life... its the only possible option!

This is the math that has created the patch it up multiverse theory. The big fat band aid that sits on top of the string theory. And the flavor for aliens after all these patch theory's are multi dimensional beings.

Was that math related to the many worlds theory? It's been around for decades. Estimates I've heard pin it on Hugh Everett in the mid 50s.

The math mentioned seemed related to the cosmo constant, which only recently got attention again. That was Einstein's "greatest blunder".
